India's digital health landscape has undergone a remarkable transformation, driven by the convergence of technology and healthcare. Initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) have established a unified digital health ecosystem, providing Health IDs, personal health records, and telemedicine services to millions. Innovations in AI, blockchain, telemedicine, and wearables are redefining patient care, making healthcare more accessible and efficient. Platforms like CoWIN and eSanjeevani have set benchmarks for scalability and integration. Government promotes the adoption of telemedicine, AI-driven diagnostics, and the National Health Stack, a shared digital infrastructure supporting healthcare delivery. These initiatives aim to enhance healthcare access, efficiency, and affordability, particularly in underserved and rural areas, while fostering innovation and private sector collaboration. With the medical devices market projected to surpass $50 billion, India is leveraging its technological prowess to enhance healthcare delivery, empower rural areas, and build a resilient and inclusive health infrastructure for the future.
The COVID-19 pandemic served as a catalyst for the ABDM, accelerating the deployment of digital health technologies. As of March 2024, the country has seen the creation of 568 million ABHA accounts and the integration of over 350 million health records into the digital ecosystem. The program’s reach, encompassing over 230,000 health facilities and 285,000 registered providers, underscores the scale of the effort. One of the most persistent challenges to the scale-up of India’s digital healthcare ecosystem is the uneven technological and infrastructural landscape across the country. While urban areas have largely benefited from improved connectivity and digital literacy, rural regions continue to struggle with limited access to the internet and necessary IT infrastructure. Although there are over 400 million internet subscribers in rural areas as of 2024, the quality and reliability of this connectivity often fall short of what is needed to sustain robust digital health services. The healthcare market is however expected to grow at a CAGR of 37% from 2020 to 2025, reaching USD 50 billion by 2025.
Against all odds, India has been progressively digitizing its health systems to improve efficiency and reach the last mile. The term “Digital Health” is all encompassing and includes all applications emerging from the intersection of healthcare and technology. The World Health Organization defines Digital Health (DH) as “a broad umbrella term encompassing eHealth, as well as emerging areas, such as using advanced computing sciences in ‘big data,’ genomics, and artificial intelligence.” Virtual Reality, genomics, business analytics, blockchain, and other emerging technologies. DH also includes telemedicine, wearable devices, mobile health applications, and remotely accessible electronic health records. The Indian medical devices market is another key driver of growth in the healthcare sector. Within a decade, ePharmacies could deliver medication within hours of online ordering, using drones when required. Digital tools and platforms could expand geographic reach, increase capacity, and extend service hours. Predictive, Personalized, Participatory, and Preventive (P4) medicine could be a reality. In this backdrop, Bharat Exhibitions is pleased to present the 2nd edition of Bharat Digital HealthCare Summit 2025 scheduled on 12th April 2025 at The Suryaa, New Delhi. This conference will bring together key leaders, innovators, developers, and experts from the healthcare and technology sectors.
