Move Towards

Atmanirbhar Bharat

Welcome To Bharat Defence Summit 2024

waves

The Indian government has launched a series of bold initiatives under the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision to transform the defense sector and reduce the country’s dependence on foreign imports. Central to these efforts is the Defence Production and Export Promotion Policy (DPEPP) 2020, which aims to enhance indigenous manufacturing capabilities, increase defense exports, and position India among the top global defense producers. The government has set ambitious targets, including achieving a turnover of $25 billion in defense manufacturing by 2025, with $5 billion earmarked for exports. Key measures include the negative import list, which bans the import of specific defense items to promote domestic production, and the Strategic Partnership Model, which fosters collaboration between Indian and global defense companies to boost technology transfer and manufacturing within India. Additionally, the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative encourages startups and MSMEs to develop cutting-edge technologies for the armed forces, promoting a robust innovation ecosystem. The emphasis on public-private partnerships, reforms in defense procurement, and the establishment of defense industrial corridors further underscores the government’s commitment to building a self-reliant defense sector, enhancing India’s strategic autonomy, and bolstering national security.

The Bharat Defence Summit 2024 is a premier event that brings together key stakeholders from the defense sector, including government officials, military leaders, defense industry experts, and strategic thinkers, to discuss and deliberate on India's journey towards self-reliance in defense. The experts convene to discuss various aspects of defense, security, military modernization, cybersecurity, border security, defense collaborations, and advancements in defense technology. Under the overarching theme "Move Towards Atmanirbhar Bharat," the summit will explore the progress, challenges, and opportunities in making India self-sufficient in defense production, technology, and innovation.

Objectives of the Summit

1. Promote Indigenous Defence Manufacturing: To promote Make in India initiatives by encouraging local manufacturers and startups in the defence ecosystem and explore opportunities for scaling up production to meet domestic and international demands.

2. Technology Showcase: Display cutting-edge technologies, products, and solutions developed by Indian defence companies, including advancements in AI, robotics, cybersecurity, smart weaponry along with satellite Communication and Surveillance

3. Strengthen Public-Private Partnerships (PPP): Facilitate collaborations between the government, private sector, and research institutions to enhance R&D and accelerate the development of indigenous technologies.

4. Addressing Emerging Security Threats: Engage in discussions on emerging global security challenges, including cyber warfare, space security, and counter-terrorism and develop strategies to enhance India's preparedness for future security threats.

5. Policy Advocacy and Reforms: Discuss policy frameworks that support defence innovation, ease of doing business, and investment in India’s defence sector.

6. Skill Development and Innovation: Address the importance of developing a skilled workforce and nurturing innovation ecosystems that support defence research and development.

7. Boost Exports: Strategize on enhancing India’s defence exports to make India a leading global supplier of defence equipment and technology.
