India is witnessing a transition from an emerging to a developed market economy, and digital is slated to play a key role in this journey. The recent explosion of data from smartphones, e-commerce, social networking sites, digital education, digital payments, and many other digital business services has contributed to the remarkable expansion of the Indian data centre market. The size of the digital economy in India is estimated to grow from $ 200 billion in 2017-18 to a staggering $ 1 trillion by 2025. The size of the digital population in India and the growth trajectory of digital economy necessitates a strong growth of Data Centres. In valuation terms, the data processing and storage market is estimated to grow from $56 billion in 2020 to $90 billion by 2025. The cloud is the foundation of digital transformation, and the data centres are the foundation of cloud services. Data centres store data on the local network of an organization, while cloud hosting stores data on the internet. Data centres house dedicated servers, while cloud services utilize shared cloud servers. India is set to cross 1800 MW in data centre capacity by 2026. India ranks 13th globally in terms of highest number of data centres. The data centre sector has witnessed significant investments from global operators, real estate developers and also private equity funds wants to invest in it.
